Yarloop Country Women's Association News - June

No tools down when you’re a CWA Member!  Over the past month the Yarloop Branch has catered for two funeral wakes – including one of our own members - Olive Maughan from Harvey.  Olive was well known for her cooking and especially her cake decorating skills.  We also catered for the opening of the Yarloop Fire Brigade Building recently.  Catering provides our newer members with the skills to organise an event, liaise with customers, try new recipes and meet new people.  A portion of the income we receive is held in trust for donating to local organisations, State CWA Office operational expenses and scholarship funds, emergency relief and is distributed at the end of the year.

Yarloop members are looking forward to the State CWA conference in July which is a powerhouse of female thinkers, movers and shakers.  Branches have the opportunity to put votes and voices for or against financial and general motions put forward by other branches, meet other branch members, hear how other branches are going and embrace new concepts and fundraising ideas.

Our branch activity this month is making reusable shopping and grocery bags, complementing one of our aims - “wise use of resources”.  These bags are made from fabrics which would otherwise have been thrown away or sit in a cupboard for years.  There are heavy duty and light weight bags, depending on what you intend to put in them.  When available, they can be purchased from CWA members for a donation (depending on size).   We are just waiting on some iron labels and they will be ready for sale.  Look out for our members selling them in the near future.
